Biked
52 miles - to Piermont in the Palisades with my bud Bill Tesar
and back yesterday - that's quite a haul on a hybrid (a bike that
is a street/mountain cross) for a fella like me. Bill just smoked
it! Contributions are coming in, so thank you, always. Got another
e-mail from RUSH drummer Neil Peart, who has so generously upped
his donation. He writes "... we're deep into the trials of
a European tour. These days I do my between-gig travels by BMW
motorcycle, and have just finished two days wandering around the
Alps -- fabulous, if a bit rainy. (Well, a lot rainy!) I've covered
about 20,000 miles that way this tour alone. Also, learning more
about the worthy "cause" you're championing with the
sponsorship, I'd like to up my pledge....." So, if that ain't
incentive for you to dig into your pockets, I'll have to think
of something else. I've been soliciting like crazy, and I'm sure
I've been getting up people's noses, but when it's gotta be done,
it's just gotta be done! There's a pic of me this morning down
at Battery Park with Lady Liberty looking on - I'll lose that
belly before I get to China, you'll see! Enjoy your weekend -
I'm off to the studio. x

Biked all the way up the West Side with my bud, Bill Tesar, yesterday
- up and over the George Washington Bridge into New Jersey and
north along the Hudson on a very scenic and quiet route until
we ran into an active film crew and had to turn back. The view
from the middle of the bridge is spectacular, and I will grab
a camera and take some shots tomorrow, as I'm planning a ride
up to Piermont. Taking in the Yankees game against the Devil Rays
today, with the gorgeous Briana, and it's been pretty cool ignoring
the phones this week and just getting on with life somewhere other
than in the studio - but if I don't get some miles under my ass
before I set off, I will probably suffer in China next month!
Certainly the Great Wall doesn't look as tho' it's constructed
on level ground now, does it? * What a sorry site if you've come
looking for a heavy metal diary! Cheers.....................

Hi,
well yesterday was a day of mixed feelings and high emotion. Started
the day with a big bike ride around Central Park, running the
6.2 mile circuit 4 times before hustling off to the West Side
to pick up some stuff for the China
Ride. Had a lunch date, but sadly ended up losing a good friend
and so meandered into an old favorite restaurant across from Carnegie
Hall on my own, had a sensational meal and made a new friend and
possible partner in an all new business venture! Then, a couple
skins of Pinot Grigio later, bumped into my ole bud Zoe and partook
of a pomegranate margarita for old times sake, went shopping at
Hugo Boss in the new enormo AOL Time-Warner building and dressed
myself for success (can't wait for that Amex bill!). While they
were altering the clothes to fit the man, got my shoes shined
and hit Jean-Georges for a beer, had a blast with the locals and
then took in opening night of the New York Philharmonic at the
Lincoln Center with a gorgeous Australian redhead cellist as a
companion, and the evening was stunning. Lorin Maazel conducted
Max Vengerov through one of the most brilliant renditions of the
Beethoven Violin Concerto (which is my favorite) that I have ever
heard (only the Haitink/Krebbers version with the Concertgebouw
orchestra challenges it - and then only for Krebbers awesome cadenza
- but wow, it was amazing) and then followed it up with a Dvorak
symphony - and it was a perfect end to a mind-blowing day! Hold
your horses, cowboy! I got home, finally, and checked my e-mails
to find my friends from JOURNEY have donated $1000 in sponsorship
to the charity I'll be riding around China for, next month, amongst
others! What generosity - thank you, thank you a thousand times
over! Now it's 5am, and I've got to get up as I'm biking up through
New Jersey today and need to be back for another meeting at lunchtime.
What a life!

I
am totally blown away by the fact that every member of Iron
Maiden (well, apart from Jann, who will!) has selfishly and
very generously donated to the charity
bike ride I'll be undertaking in China. What that lets you
know of the band, is that they are loyal and unselfish, and this
is reflected in the way they deliver their music. Integrity is
the key - nothing, not even their life-long management, influence
their music, and what they deliver is based on care for the fans
and the integrity of the music they deliver, both on record and
on stage! Anyone who has seen a Maiden gig, whether they are fans
of the music or not, will telll you it is a spectacle second to
none. So, I thank you guys, from the bottom of my heart, as I
do everyone else who has given so generously for the charity.
And to all those of you that I know are probably not as financially
stable as you'd like to be, thanks for giving! It's really blowing
me away. * On top of it all, I think it's going to be a really
fun ride. As it's MENCAP,
a charity based in England - I won't know anyone on the ride and
I am look forward to meeting a whole bunch of new friends on this
exotic journey. So, THANKS! Once again, the picture of 'Arry is
nicked from Ross' website
- who I didn't see amongst the donors, did you? :) OK,
off to hit the pavement and get some miles under my ample seat
- the winter is coming and the temperature now is just 50'F, definitely
getting chilly! About as welcome as an uninvited visit from the
mother-in-law (not that I have one!). Gotta go chase some sun.
See ya,

Beach house

Hi,
I've just wrapped up some Aerosmith surround mixes and then hauled
out to the beach at 2.15am yesterday morning, a little shattered.
It's never easy working with them, and actually it might be easier
to find a solution to the Middle East problem, but the band sure
is one of the best rock bands ever! I am in awe of Tyler's performances
and abilities, but he is one intense dude; and Joe and Brad are
on fire - well, everyone is... Joey and Tom are rock solid - I
love the music. Particularly loved Cryin', Never Loved and Dream
On from this set! Awesome. I stole this picture from that sicko,
Ross Halfin's great website!
+ Had to be out at the beach yesterday, as I like the doctor out
here, and went in for my annual physical - as it turns out, I'm
in pretty good shape. Certainly good enough to cycle around China
next month. EKG was good, blood pressure 126/86 (which is better
for me) and I am 7 lbs lighter than last year (which surprised
me) but there you go! All this after a bender Wednesday night
and a bucket load of "toxic" stress! + Next week I am
mixing a Dream Theater web-only concert, for sale on their web-site
and recording a country artist, Jerry Flowers, with my bud Pat
Thrall. And that's about all for now...please donate to the China
bike ride cause, and thanks to those of you who have. It is really
greatly appreciated - every $5!!! Merci xxx

Thanks,
everyone who is making a contribution to the bike ride - I even
managed to solicit a few coins out of Steven Tyler yesterday,
and was wonderfully surprised to get a nice e-mail from Neil Peart,
along with his donation - all of which is going to Mencap, to
help kids with learning disabilities. We all have to pay for our
flights, for the ride and the accomodations, so everything you
contribute will go straight to the charity. Training this morning,
and set off hoping to cover 40miles before the session start,
but Manhattan potholes nailed me after about ten, and I ended
my ride in the back of a taxi - headed for a coffee shop! Aerosmith
is sounding awesome, and especially live, they kill! Off to the
beach tomorrow - and much work to do, so Ooroo! Over 'n out -
and please stop in and make a donation. Click here CHINA

Hi,
writing to you from the studio in New York City where I'm just
putting some Aerosmith surround mixes to bed for a new DVD they're
planning on releasing, but the news I want to share with you,
is a charity bike ride I am going to do with a group through China
next month, and I want you to sponsor me and support the
charity, Mencap. - click here for more details on the ride:
CHINA BIKE RIDE. Also, see who
are making their contributions - you might find the odd celeb
in there, and get your name next to theirs :)! I have just started
training - a little late, but I only decided at the eleventh hour
to do it, and I intend to be kicking ass when I get there. Easy-ish
ride today - just about 24 miles, and I will have to build up
to about 50 every day before I leave on October 22nd! So, please
contribute - and thanks a lot!
Thanks,

Malibu

Greetings
from Malibu! I've actually not spent much too time here, and it's
pretty cool. Got in yesterday from a couple of days in Las Vegas,
which was way beyond surreal - it was my first time and I was
very much taken aback by the magnitude of the whole thing! Went
to bed Wednesday night about 4.30am after hanging out with the
guys from the Queen show, "We Will Rock You". Patti
Russo, who I worked with when I did "The
Flame" for the Sydney Olympic Games, is singing lead
and it was fun to catch up. They invited me to the show, but the
company at the bar at Paris was far too pretty to leave ignored!
Got up two hours later to tackle a bike ride on my own through
Red Rock Canyon. 20 odd miles in 106 degree heat wasn't really
difficult, but the first five miles all headed uphill, and with
the smell of tequila leaking from my body in the scorching desert
heat and not a drop of wind to cool my core, I was wondering if
the buzzards would find me first! Anyhoo, much fun followed and
yesterday I escaped at the crack of dawn and flew into Los Angeles,
battered and bruised, picked up a convertible and drove up the
Pacific Coast Highway, hair everywhere, to my friend Cassandra's
beautiful house, where she set about soothing my tortured soul!
Now, refreshed and invigorated, I am getting ready for my friend,
and awesome man and musician Robbi
Robb's betrothal to his love! Next week I am in the studio
with one of the greatest American rock bands, again, and I am
pretty excited. It has been a hectic summer. *

Now, that's a diary entry void of confrontation - won't see this
on Blabbermouth or Brave Words! Thank God - the inane ramblings
of an early rising, frustrated author need never be fodder for
any serious consideration, in my never-humble opinion! Namaste..........
