It sometimes seems amazing, happily so, that people can still making great music
out of simple guitar licks and rhythms. As the latest group to prove this, the Unband
rocks like a bunch of kids in a garage who haven't gotten past the chapter on the
'70s in their copy of "Rock Music for Dummies" and don't really care.
Singer Matt Pierce sounds like Motörhead's Lemmy if you handed Lemmy a throat
lozenge, while drummer Eugene Ferrari and bassist Mike Ruffino put pre-prog rock
Rush rhythms up against Pierce's pre-rehab Aerosmith-like guitar riffs. But it really
isn't that complicated.
On such songs as the swaggering "Everybody Wants You" and the anthemic
"Rock Hard," these guys are just the best raw, bar-brewed, riff happy,
hard rock band since the early days of Guns N' Roses. And that, my friends, is an
amazing thing to hear.
