LOSIN’ YOUR MARBLES
(Fellaheen)

Whilst on the subject of much anticipated releases, it’s time to heap some well deserved praise on Gold Coast’s finest - Fur. This ’uns been firmly slotted into my walkman for weeks, and I’ve no intention of removing it ! Triple J should be flogging this ! If this lot don’t explode nationally with ‘Losin’ Your Marbles’ I’ll buy the Billy Joel back catalogue ! With ‘Caveman’ Shirley twiddling the knobs, the sound is huge and instantly infectious, and the blazing ‘Big Red Crab’ punches hard and kicks things off nicely. The dark, brooding melodies this lot produce are astounding. ‘Double Head’ highlights this. Sweet sounding pop, caught in between those familiar changes in pace - this song burns. ‘Hank & Jessie’ are vocalist Kim’s pet ducks, and they’d no doubt be quacking with delight (like me) over this highly melodic, well crafted pop ditty that bears their names. Cutting live tune ‘The Refugees’ survives the transition to disc remarkably well. Ouch ! It’s burning hot. The up-tempo, rocket fuelled ‘Dancin’ Man’ hits the spot and had me unashamedly playing air-guitar in public. Addictive and moody bass run, fiery guitars and vocals, dropping grooves - put simply ‘Blue Lady’ kicks butt. ‘Losin’ Your Marbles’ could be THE release of 1995.
