Our Lady Peace
Happiness ... is Not a Fish That You Can Catch
(Columbia)

With radio hits like "Starseed" and "Superman's Dead" under its belts, Our Lady Peace is looking to up the ante with its third outing, Happiness ... is Not a Fish That You Can Catch.
Opening with the straight-forward hard-rock rant "One Man Army," lead singer Raine Maida's soaring vocals are in fine form and are superbly complemented by drummer Jeremy Taggart, bassist Duncan Coutts, guitarist Mike Turner, and new addition/keyboardist Jamie Edwards.
Since its 1997 success, Clumsy, the Toronto collective's sound has matured and expanded. The new songs possess a swirling depth attached to their melodic frameworks. Tracks like the muted rager "Is Anybody Home?," the rhythm-driven romp "Stealing Babies," and the building ballad "Blister" are passionate slices of rock & roll.
The centerpiece is "Waited," a searing mini-epic dripping with ardent conviction that finds Maida admitting "No one listens/But I'm OK with it."
Happiness may not be achievable in the gospel according to Our Lady Peace, but this album is quite a catch in and of itself.
